Online Poker, why play...

Online Poker is the best game in the house for an Online Poker Articles gambler and it has to do with allowing each individual to pick the opponents he will come up against and the amount of the betting he wishes to engage in. And, if you have knowledge of Online Poker, then you are on the right track!

The reason that this is the best game for the Online Poker Articles Player, is because you can choose who you wish to engage in combat with. In online Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, etc, the house has that built in edge, called Vigorish, working for them. The Vigorish is the difference in what the house pays and what they should pay. Naturally they are entitled to it because they pay the rent, dealers, electric etc. But the bottom line is that we (the online poker players), fight this high every time we go to a table online poker game or machine.

Poker Cards

But in onlinePoker, there is no built in edge, except for the rake (percentage the house pulls from the winning hand). Some charge 5% while others are a lot less and the individual players who lose a pot are not subjected to this hidden rake. In private games, you will find there is no such thing.

Plus, you can go to a table and play against people who are worse than you are. A BAD online poker player gets the label of FISH or MARK. That's because he/she is a lousy (for want of a better word) online poker player and subject to getting beat by better online poker players. You can also leave a table if you find you are the dubious owner of the terms FISH and MARK.

In other words, if you are playing against good strong articles players, you can keep table jumping until you find your own MARK. Believe me; it takes only a couple of hands to sort out the strong players and the bad ones. You can bet the ranch that I wouldn't stay at a table where the other players were far superior to me.

If you are just starting out and think you know the game because you wipe out your family at the Friday night penny-ante kitchen table games, then you better read the following, regarding a few things you should be aware of but keep in mind that it is still the best game for you to play:

  • You gotta know how to READ your Online Poker cards.
  • You gotta know the chances of you improving your hand, based on the cards you can see on the table.
  • You gotta be aware of the TELLS by your opponents.
  • You gotta be sure NOT to have TELLS of your own, whereby another player can get a read on your mannerisms, which give away your style of play.
  • You gotta know when to apply discipline.
  • You MUST have Online Poker MONEY MANAGEMENT.
  • You must learn NOT to chase.
  • You must learn to have the DISCIPLINE necessary to know when you are beat.

The things I listed are not hard to understand and a fairly decent online Poker player will know exactly what I am talking about. Don't think that the list cancels out the fact that I believe you should play this game. Play Online Poker, but at the same time, NOT BEFORE you are aware of what you need to compete with other players. Being new to online Poker, you may not have heard the term: A ROCK!

A Rock is a player who waits for a sure fire powerful hand, before getting involved in a pot. He/she won't call or bet until the situation warrants that his/her hand can withstand anyone else's cards. Other players will pick up on these actions and the Rocks soon find that nobody stays around when they finally do bet, making their powerful hands practically worthless. That is where you must have a balanced way of playing, in such a way that you give out absolutely no information to your opponents as to your strengths or weaknesses.

You should know that the term BLUFFING is over rated. You can bluff once, maybe twice a night, but a good online poker player will pick up on these moves and negate them with moves of their own.

Go back over that list I laid out and see how it applies to your playing online poker . I am not trying to discourage your playing this game but rather want to encourage you to do so, when you're a solid online poker player.

Internet Security Awareness when Playing Online Poker

Introduction

Security is an important aspect in today's online poker article world. Viruses may target our computers and malicious software can cause deletion of important data or access to information stored on your computer. Needless to say, as an online Poker Player where data about accounts and information about your activities with online Poker Rooms, Neteller and other actors takes place security is of uttermost importance for you. But what exactly is security and Privacy. We will break down the area into a number of points and thereafter suggest precautions and actions you can take to meet potential security threats resulting in a breach of your privacy and lost data. The two areas we will consider in this article are Encryption and Access restrictions. We will talk about Encryption in this first article and discuss access restriction in a later one. We cannot take any responsibility for consequences for your use of the information provided here. In some countries the use of of the software mentioned here may be prohibited and its up to you to investigate what is allowed at your location.

Encryption

Data transmitted on the Internet is sent in Packets through something called TCP/IP. When you access a webpage e.g. www.cnn.com your computer basically takes your request and puts it into tiny packages that are sent out on the Internet. The host computer, in this case the web server at CNN assembles the packets of data and interpretates the content and processes the request. You can for yourself see this process by installing a program called HTTP-look that captures the requests and data received when you surf on the Internet. The problem is however that other persons can capture your packets and assemble the content since your packets may bounce around the Internet for everyone with skill to grab. In most cases this may not be a problem since the only thing they can se is that somebody with a specific IP-number makes a particular request. However if the information transmitted contains credit card information the situation is another one. Luckily sensitive information is encrypted. To decode the information in an encrypted message the recipient must be able to decode the data, otherwise it will make no sense to the reader.

When your computer communicates with an Online Poker room about cards dealt, deposit requests and withdrawal and account information this data is encrypted. In order for your computer to read the data it needs a key to unlock the secret code from the poker room so it can read the cards dealt and account information. So is this safe? Yes it is quite safe but of course everything can be hacked, however there are probably easier ways to do it and that is to grab the data before it is encrypted for instance at your computer at home.

Here we can do something as computer owners, we can make it harder for unauthorized persons to access the data on our computers. What an unauthorized person can do is to spy on you in your home or steal your computer; the problem is that they may do so without even getting into your house physically. By hacking your computer they may gain access to your data and your activities without even knowing where you are located physically.online poker By installing spyware and keyloggers unauthorized persons are gaining access to your computer. This is something most people would like to avoid since this is a privacy infringement they can live without. Some software may be quite harmless they may send anonymous statistics about your surfing habits while some may be really cruel providing hackers with your typed in credit card details snapped up by a key logging program. How do users gain access to install the software on your computer? The truth is that most of the time computer users may do this themselves not aware of what they install. An e-mail containing an attachment may install the software and may redistribute the file to other users in your address book. These viruses can spread around the world with an impressive speed. In order to avoid this we recommend you to always use antivirus software. Some of the most common today are: Norton Antivirus, F-Secure Antivirus, McAffee, and online pokerPanda Antivirus.

It's really a matter of taste, which one you choose since they all have similar functionality. You can try out most of the software before you buy it. If you are doing some of your work at home your employer may provide you with a home license for free, check with your employer to find out what applies for your company. I would personally go for the software my company provided me with if available since it often includes a subscription of viruses and malicious code.

When you install an antivirus program on your online poker computer you can do a detailed scan where the online poker software inspects all your stored data and upon detection of a virus it will in most cases be able to remove it from your system.

Some unwanted software might be less destructive and more focused on collecting information. This software can be defined as spyware and are basically information collectors ranging from keyloggers to cookies used to store information when you visit websites on your computer. Since some of this online poker software is rather harmless virus software doesn't target them. Instead you need software that can inspect your cookies and remove spyware for you. If you have downloaded shareware or freeware from the Internet there is a chance that this software has spyware components. Often this is mentioned in the long terms and conditions box presented upon installation however most users doesn't read it so they are unaware of the presence of the software.

By using the free Ad Aware software you can scan your computer in order to detect spyware however be careful to delete all your cookies since it may for instance remove login information and preferences for sites you visit.

So far we have two pieces of software we suggest you acquire, Antivirus software and Spyware detection software which solves the following issues:

Malicious software threatening your privacy and data- poker articles

Less malicious software threatening mainly your privacy without a clear informed consent. Important: Don't remove all cookie files since they may affect the appearance of certain web sites where you have personalised settings.

We have also pointed out that the information is pretty safe when it is transmitted over the Internet and encrypted and that the problem often arises inside the Client computers connected to the Internet. The third issue we want to bring to the readers attention is to keep you operatin system up to date.

Keeping your operating system up to date

Another important aspect is to keep your operating system software up to date. If you are using Windows you have an opportunity to check for system updates through something called windows update. At some editions of Windows this may even be done automatically. You can access windows update from your start menu or from Internet Explorer.

So be aware and play at www.crazyvegaspoker.com

Poker Movies

Now what would a sport be if hollywood did not make movies based on it. we recently have seen online Articles The Casino Tv Show by mark Burnett, las Vegas, Casino - Robert De Niro and Lucky - the gambler in Las Vegas as TV shows. These poker and casino productions get their cue from classic hollywood poker movies.

Below is a syndicated list of top hollywood poker movies: These are the classics, many more have been made:

  1. California Split (1974). Though a bit old this classic is the only movie to ever attempt to show the day to day life of card-playing, sports-betting, sleep-till-noon gamblers. Marred only by a poor ending and muddled sound, Split was directed by Robert Altman. George Segal & Elliot Gould play Gardena poker players in search of a rush. World Series of Poker champion Amarillo Slim has a featured role. Though not commercially available on video, Los Angeles residents can pick it up at Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee.
  2. The Sting (1973). When you play a cheater, be sure you cheat better than he does. Paul Newman out-hustles Robert Shaw during a train-board poker game. Newman's boozy, needling performance - and the shocked expression on Shaw's underling's face when he realizes they've been out-cheated - reveal a glimpse of how below the polite veneer, poker is usually taken very seriously.
  3. The Cincinnati Kid (1965). The finale to the most famous poker movie is so ludicrous it unfortunately damages the whole film. The Kid bungles the hand like a blithering idiot. Still, a movie with Ann-Margret, Steve McQueen and the line "That's what it's all about, doing the wrong thing at the right time" is worth seeing.
  4. Kaleidoscope (1966). An obscure, pre-Bonnie and Clyde Warren Beatty film, Beatty breaks into a factory and doctors the plates that print the cards used by the major casinos of the world. He marks the cards in a way only he can see. Naturally, after these cards go into circulation, Beatty goes on the rush to end all rushes playing blackjack and poker. Unfortunately for him, when forced into a head-up no-limit game, they switch cards to ones he can't read. Now forced to play using only his wits, he traps his opponent into an enormous pot - only to be faced with the best poker decision I've seen in a movie. Check it out.
  5. Born Yesterday (1950). Gin is the game. Judy Holliday plays the ultimate dumb blonde while Broderick Crawford is the coarse man who "keeps" her. Watch Holliday play, and you will forever have a new view on "table image." Fine film, great scene. The tepid 1993 remake with Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson features a much weaker gin scene.
  6. A Big Hand for the Little Lady (1966). If you swallow the fact that a player can walk across the street carrying her cards in the middle of a hand, you should enjoy this movie with Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward and a roster of fine character actors. The action centers around a poker game climaxing with "a big hand for the little lady."
  7. Three Godfathers (1936). Several film versions of this story exist. The best is the 1948 version with John Wayne, but in this version, after Walter Brennan helps a complete stranger cheat at poker, the stranger asks, "Why did you do that?" Brennan replies: "I dunno. I guess I'm just a no good rat."
  8. Dr. Mabuse - The Gambler (1922). Imagine how much you could make if you could use mind control to force an opponent to stand pat on three(!) in blackjack or baccarat, and fold a winning hand in poker. Arch-criminal/lunatic Dr. Mabuse can do exactly that. Directed by Fritz Lang, Dr. Mabuse is perhaps the third best silent, foreign film - after Lang's own Metropolis and Sergei Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin. Lang and others made several interesting sequels over the next four decades, but none featured cards or gambling so prominently. One line: "A dream of youthful ambition, to win at cards and love." Then there is this question asked upon entering a private club: "cards or cocaine?"!!
  9. Run (1990). Patrick Dempsey kills time at an illegal card game in New Jersey before legalization of casino poker there. Here we get a rare filmed record of a player tipping the dealer, and the waving off of obnoxious second hand smoke. The game climaxes when a belligerent, violent player forces Dempsey to draw one card instead of standing pat. "This is a new twist: Gestapo poker." Run also is one of the best-paced movies you'll ever see.
  10. The Gunfighter (1950). One of the all-time best serious Westerns, Gregory Peck stars as a notorious gunfighter who only wants to settle down to a calm life, but he is endlessly pestered by every little squirt in the world looking to make a reputation for himself. Despite the serious theme, there are two hysterical scenes. One features two old coots fighting (after a poker dispute). A third old coot watching says, "I’ve seen better fights than this in a prayer meeting." The brief poker scene features the coots playing poker in the local barbershop. When a new man walks in, the coots try to persuade him into the game. The new man says, "I wouldn't sit in this game with cards I made myself." This line has kept me out of many Omaha games over the years!
  11. The Casino - Robert De Niro was not a total life of a gambler movie but was a behind the scenes look at the mafiaso behind a particular casino. robert De Niro is a classic himself and thats what made this movie great. I dont know if it made me want to gop out and gamble but it was great non the less.

See you at the movies folks!!!!!
