Notes on Play: The '78 WSOP tournament was the first WSOP not to have the winner-take-all prize. Instead, it had progressive pot which the top five players would share. The split was at a 50% for grand prize and then down from there: 20%, 15%, 10% and 5%. With the final card Bobby Baldwin became the youngest World Poker Champion yet.

Notes on Play: Fifty- four players entered the ' 79 WSOP world series of poker to stake their claim at the title of World Champion. During the first day twenty players were knocked out of the tournament. These players included former holders of the WSOP Title Doyle Brunson, "Sailor" Roberts, and Amarillo Slim.world series of poker Barbara Freer, the first women to ever enter the game, also exited on the first day. Fowler's hand was an inside straight beating Hoff for the title.

Notes on Play: The tournament began with seventy three players from around the world. These world players included: Jerry Fong from Canada, Gilbert "The Frenchman" from France, Jim ray from Peru and Ireland Champion Poker Player Colette Doherty. This day also saw the exit of twenty-three players and the exit of all but one female player. Thirty eight players left on the second day including three former WSOP holders. Gabe Kaplan is among the twelve players left in contention for the grand prize. world series of poker Five players met for the finial day of the Championship Game Of the five players to meet, two were former World Champion Poker Players. Ungar emerged the victor, winning the first of three WSOP titles.

At the end of the first day only sixty-nine players remained in the game. Jack Straus two 10's beat Dewey Tomko two 4's to win the Championship.

Notes on Play: One hundred and eight poker players entered the WSOP Championship game of 1983, with a $1,040,000 in the pot at stake. Six previous World Poker Champion players entered the tournament and were also joined by celebrity Larry Flynt. At the end of day one thirty seven players exited the game including defending champ Jack Straus. McEvoy won and claimed both the title and his share of the $1,040,000 pot.

Notes on Play: One hundred and thirty two poker players from around the world came to Bionon's Horseshoe Casino to participate in the World Series Poker Championship. This tournament saw eight of the ten WSOP Champions playing for a $1,320,000 pot and another shot at the title of World Poker Champion. At the end of the first day only Seventy two poker players made it to day two. Keller claimed the title and the $1,320,000 pot.

Each of these poker players were there for the $1,410,000 pot and the chance to call themselves World Poker Champion. Berry Johnston took the WSOP title and the $1,410,000 pot and denied Smith the opportunity to go for a back-to-back title run.
